We have 3 Elixir's on offer this month...one of which has already SOLD OUT! Let's talk about that one first!
The Purple Caturra produced by coffee farmer Rodrigo Sanchez, was shipped to this months subscribers on June 1st and sold out by the end of the second week of June!
The coffee used to make this Elixir is a single varietal coffee, purple caturra, grown by coffee producer Rodrigo Sanchez of Finca (farm) Monteblanco in the Huila region of Colombia.
Rodrigo is a third generation coffee farmer, and owns four farms in the Huila region.
Purple caturra is an older varietal that was a mutation of regular caturra that is often found in Colombia.
The plant produces rich copper/purple leaves when new, and the cherries themselves are a darker tint than normal.
This coffee was grown and produced without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.
We can't wait till the next harvest to get this coffee back on rotation!
Our next offering for June, being released today, June 18th, is another stunner and the first coffee cooperative in our #thisisyourcoffeefarmer initiative.
The coffee used to make this Elixir comes from the Kolla Bolcha coffee cooperative in the Agaro Gera districts in the esteemed coffee growing zone of Jimma, Ethiopia.
This coffee cooperative (under the Kata Muduga Union) has roughly 400 members that bring their coffee cherries to this station to be processed.
The secret behind the stunning quality of this coffee is that equipment mechanically removes most of the fruit and mucilage from the seeds, they soak overnight in fibreglass tanks, allowing any remaining sugars to be fully removed from their surface so that the coffees are perfectly clean by the time they hit the drying beds for the eight-plus days they’ll need to dry.
This Elixir is exceptional and highlights the clarity this coffee has to offer. The extra effort that has gone into processing this coffee is evident in every bottle.
This coffee is roasted by Steady State Roasters based in Carlsbad, California
Our finally Elixir coming onto our offerings this month is an Elixir produced by Belisario Opocue from Paez, Cauca, Colombia.
Like many producers, Belisario Opocue sees coffee as a family affair. From the time he was born, he spent time on his dad’s farm learning everything from picking to drying.
As is common practice, Belisario left the farm for a couple of years to study, and when his father sadly passed away, he inherited the land, and returned to the farm to continue the family legacy.
The farm had not been left in the best condition, and getting started was difficult, so Belisario dedicated himself to renovating the land. Higher prices have motivated him over the past few years to continue improving his infrastructure and processes.
Today, he manages the farm alongside his wife, Ester Vitopia. Belisario oversees the harvest, fertilization, and de-pulping, while Ester is in charge of washing and drying the coffee.
This coffee was roasted by Merit Coffee Roasters in San Antonio, Texas!
